Cellist Hong Jin-ho, who won JTBC's "Super Band" in 2019, gives a solo recital, "Classic Mode: Hong Jinho Cello," at 5 p.m. on 12 December at Kumho Art Hall Yonsei. Violinist Kang Dae-hyun and accordionist Jeon Yu-jeong join him, and the concert is presented by the Kumho Cultural Foundation. General sales at the remaining ticket agents open today, 4 September, at noon on Interpark (NOL Ticket), Ticketlink and elsewhere. All seats are KRW 70,000, and preschool children are not admitted.
The programme moves between the classical repertoire and tango. The first half brings the opening movement of Benjamin Britten's Suite No. 1 for solo cello, the first and fourth movements of Maurice Ravel's Sonata for violin and cello, and Paul Schoenfield's "Café Music." The second half opens with Richard Galliano's "Song for Jo," then continues with Astor Piazzolla tangos including "Oblivion," "Escualo," "Ave Maria," Spring from "The Four Seasons of Buenos Aires" and "Death of the Angel."
Hong graduated from Seoul National University's College of Music and completed the Konzertexamen at the Hochschule für Musik Würzburg in Germany, with prizes at international competitions including the Mendelssohn and Bordeaux. Since "Super Band" he has appeared on JTBC's "Begin Again" and KBS's "Open Concert" as well as at the Seoul Jazz Festival, and has given solo recitals at Lotte Concert Hall, the Seoul Arts Center and LG Arts Center.
