The music drama the Chungdong Theater is staging for two months this autumn is opening its second round of ticket sales in the week before it opens. According to the KOPIS performance record, Island: 1933–2019 runs from Tuesday 22 September to Sunday 22 November at the Chungdong Theater, presented and produced jointly by the Chungdong Theater Foundation and Library Company. The music is by Lee Sun-young.
The on-sale was announced on the seller's product page. Booking starts at 11am on Tuesday 15 September and covers performances from Tuesday 13 October to Sunday 1 November. The first three weeks from opening night were already sold in the first round, so this release opens a three-week block from the middle of October. All seats are a single grade at 77,000 won.
The casting is built around two performers moving between two eras. Baek Eun-hye and Jeong Yeon are cast as Marianne and Ko Ji-seon, and Jung Woon-sun and Lee Ji-sook as Margaret and Baek Su-seon. Beyond the figures on stage there are separate Voice roles: Jeon Seong-hye and An Ri-na as Voice 1, An Chang-yong and Im Byeol as Voice 2, and Kim Ji-hye among others as Voice 3. Seol Ga-min, Jang Woo-sung and Park So-young are among the creative team. KOPIS records two awards for the work, including the book award at the 9th Korean Musical Awards, and two earlier stagings under the same title — this is not its first outing.
A few things are worth checking before booking. The running time is 115 minutes with no interval. The seller states that no one may enter after the performance has begun, and that anyone who leaves during it cannot return. Admission is for ages 12 and over, meaning anyone born in 2014 or earlier; students must bring a document showing their date of birth to be admitted.
Performances are at 7.30pm on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, at 3pm and 7.30pm on Friday, at 2pm and 6pm on Saturdays and public holidays and at 2pm on Sunday, with no Monday performances. There are exceptions: no performances on Thursday 24 and Friday 25 September, a 2pm performance on Monday 5 October, and 2pm and 6pm performances on Friday 9 October. Seats are synchronised between the Chungdong Theater website and NOL Ticket, so both show the same availability whichever is used. Wheelchair users and those with limited mobility can book by phone through the NOL call centre on 1544-1555.
