Key points
- The fourth on-sale for the musical Midnight: Actor Musician — THE CHOICE opens at 2pm on Thursday 17 September.
- It covers 37 performances from Tuesday 13 October to Sunday 8 November, releasing most of what remains of the season in one go.
- All seats are 70,000 won, and the seller lists nine discounts, led by 25% off for booking in the first week.
The musical now playing in Daehangno is releasing the rest of its season at once. According to the notice the seller Ticketlink posted on 11 September, the fourth on-sale for Midnight: Actor Musician — THE CHOICE starts at 2pm on Thursday 17 September and covers 37 performances from Tuesday 13 October to Sunday 8 November. The season opened on 11 August and closes on 29 November, the same period registered in the KOPIS performance database.
The venue is Hall 3, the studio theatre at Uniplex; the seller writes it as NOL Uniplex Hall 3 after the naming sponsor. All seats are a single grade at 70,000 won, and the running time is 100 minutes with no interval. Admission is for middle-school age and above, registered in KOPIS as 13 and over. Performances are at 8pm on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, at 4pm and 8pm on Wednesday, at 3pm and 7pm on Saturday and at 2pm and 6pm on Sundays and public holidays.
Nine discounts are attached to this on-sale. The fourth-round early-booking discount takes 25% off for anyone booking between 17 and 23 September, and applies to every performance from 13 October to 8 November. Each performer's first performance — 8pm on Wednesday 14 October and Wednesday 21 October — carries 40% off. Beyond those there is a returning-audience discount of 30% for anyone holding a physical paid ticket to any Midnight staging from 2017 to 2026, a 30% matinee discount on the 4pm Wednesday performances, 25% for students, 25% on packages of three or more, 20% for office workers and 50% on welfare grounds. The seller has said that bank-transfer payment will be suspended from 2pm on 17 September until 11.59pm on 19 September to deter illegal transfer and resale.
What makes this particular block worth noting is the scheduling. The same producer, Moment Maker, is staging Midnight: Antlers from 4 October to 15 November in Hall 1, the main house in the same building. The 13 October to 8 November window going on sale now falls entirely inside both runs, so two different versions of the same source work can be seen in two rooms of one theatre a day apart, or back to back on the same day. The seller's own description mentions both and makes "the choice" its theme.
The work is adapted from Citizens of Hell, a play by the Azerbaijani writer Elchin. Timothy Knapman wrote the book and Laurence Mark Wythe, of Tomorrow Morning and Through the Door, the music. Just before midnight on 31 December, an unidentified caller known as the Visitor knocks at a couple's door and draws out their secrets one by one; to that two-hander the Actor Musician version adds performers who double as the band, playing percussion, violin, guitar, double bass and piano on stage. In the casting released by the seller, the Visitor is shared by Lim Kang-sung, Rang Yeon, Yeo Eun, Kim Dae-hyun, Jang Bo-ram and Park Seul-gi; the Man by Cho Hyun-woo, Han Jae-won and Kim Tae-hyung; and the Woman by Seo Chae-yi, Lee Sang-ah and Park Hye-min. Song Min-sun produces, Han Ji-an is credited with the adaptation and Korean lyrics, and Lee Beom-jae is associate director and music director.
