Socrates Paradox opens its second round of ticket sales on 15 September

An original Korean musical that puts the courtroom of ancient Athens on stage is releasing its next block of tickets five days after opening night. According to the seller's product page, the second on-sale for Socrates Paradox starts at 3pm on Tuesday 15 September and covers performances from Tuesday 13 October to Sunday 1 November. The production opened on Thursday 10 September and runs to Sunday 29 November at Scon Hall 1 in NOL Seokyeong Square in Daehangno.

The paradox of the title is the proposition that one knows only that one knows nothing. The creative team registered in the KOPIS performance database lists Yoo Hye-jung as writer, Chae Im-kyung and Kim Eun-young among the composers, and Choi Kyung-hoon on choreography. HJ Culture is the planner, producer and presenter.

The piece is built around the opposition of two figures. In the casting released by the seller, four performers rotate as Socrates — Jung Min, Kim Do-bin, Cho Poong-rae and Moon Kyung-cho — and four as Meletus, the man who takes him to court: Choi Ho-seung, Hwang Min-su, Lee Jong-seok and Lee Jun-woo. The running time is 80 minutes, short even by Daehangno standards. Admission is for ages 8 and over, meaning anyone born in 2019 or earlier, and a physical document showing the date of birth must be presented when collecting tickets and entering.

Tickets come in three grades: R at 77,000 won, S at 55,000 and A at 44,000. Performances are at 8pm on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, and at 2pm and 6pm on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, with no Monday performances. The seller states that proof for a discount is accepted only as an original physical document, not a photograph or a screenshot, and that the ticket grade cannot be changed at the venue. There is no car park at the theatre and public transport is recommended. Once the performance has started, entry is only possible at a designated latecomers' interval, and latecomers may be seated in the late-entry seats rather than the seats they booked.
