Synopsis
[시놉시스] 영국의 부유한 상인 토비아 밀러는 자신의 딸 포바를 캐나다에서 온 부자 페니모어와 결혼시키기로 약속하고, 계약서(결혼 어음)에 서명한다. 하지만 포바는 이미 젊고 가난한 연인 에도르도와 사랑에 빠져 있다. 캐나다 백만장자 페니오어는 계약서에 따라 포바를 아내로 맞이하러 온다. 그러나 포바는 그를 거부하고, 사랑하는 에도르도와 결혼하고 싶다고 강하게 주장한다. 페니모어는 포바의 강한 거부 반응에 당황하지만, 점차 그녀의 진심을 이해하게 된다. 마침내 페니모어는 밀러를 설득하여 결혼 계약을 파기하고, 포바와 에도르도의 사랑을 응원하게 된다. 마지막에는 모두가 화해하고, 페니모어는 포바를 푹복하며 떠난다.
