Jangchung Arena Seats and Parking: 48 of the 63 Bays Go to the Promoter

Can I park at Jangchung Arena on a concert day?

Realistically, no. The Seoul Facilities Corporation parking page for Jangchung Arena states that during events the promoter block-books the entire car park and general parking is restricted. With only 63 bays in total, it is tight even on a quiet day.

How many bays the promoter actually takes is printed as a number on the same operator’s main arena hire tariff: a full event booking is billed as "48 of 63 bays × 45,000 won = 2,160,000 won per day", with 15 bays excluded — 2 accessible, 3 EV, 5 season-pass and 5 staff. Add 48 and 15 and you get exactly the 63 bays the facility page lists.

So the only bays a ticket-holder could compete for are what is left of those 15 after the accessible, EV and season-pass allocations. Driving is not a plan.

How much is parking, and what are the hours?

Outside events it is 400 won per 5 minutes — 4,800 won for an hour, 14,400 won for three. The car park runs 09:00–24:00, and according to the operator’s FAQ it is free between 24:00 and 09:00. Seoul’s grade-1 off-street tariff applies.

Payment is by unattended card terminal only, so bring a credit card. Buses and goods vehicles over 5 tonnes cannot enter.

Discounts run 50% for light and low-emission cars, 80% for registered disabled drivers and disabled veterans, one free hour then 50% for May 18 Democratic Movement merit holders, and 50% for single-parent welfare recipients. Light cars are recognised automatically; everything else needs documentation, and discounts do not stack.

Two of the operator’s own pages disagree here. The parking page gives Seoul’s multi-child card a flat 50%, while the FAQ splits it into 30% for two children and 50% for three or more. The FAQ also carries a condition found nowhere else — on an event day, 10,000 won per three hours (two paid, one free), calculated from the normal tariff rather than the event rate. Which one the barrier actually applies is worth a call to the parking desk on 02-2128-2827.

Which car parks nearby are worth trying?

The arena’s own site names four, and the two within a ten-minute walk — Jangchung Public Car Park and Dongguk University — are the realistic options.

Rates and policies differ by car park and change often, so call before you set off. When a show ends, close to 4,500 people leave at once and the surrounding roads back up.

How do I get there by subway?

Exit 5 of Dongguk University Station (동대입구역) on Subway Line 3 connects directly into Jangchung Arena. You never surface, which matters in rain or in a Seoul winter.

For buses, routes N13, 144, 301 and 7212 stop at Jangchung Gymnasium (stops 02-201 and 02-202), and routes 05, 02 and 03 stop at Dongguk University Station · Jangchung-dong (stop 02-222).

How many seats are there, and does that match the KOPIS record?

Jangchung Arena seats 4,507. That is the figure on the Seoul Facilities Corporation facility page, and it matches, to the seat, the capacity that Korea’s Performing Arts Integrated Computer System (KOPIS) holds on its Jangchung Arena record. Two independent public sources agreeing exactly is rarer than you would expect.

Go one level down and a second number appears. The facility page writes the total as "4,507 seats, including 1,324 retractable seats". Fixed seating is therefore 4,507 minus 1,324, or 3,183, with the remaining 1,324 on retractable bleachers. Neither KOPIS nor any ticketing page carries that split.

Those 1,324 seats matter to a concert-goer for a simple reason: depending on the show they are folded away and the floor becomes stage or standing room. The same "A1" is not the same place twice. Always re-read the seating chart for your specific show on the ticketing site.

How does the view differ by zone?

It is a circular dome with the stage built against one end, so the angle to the stage matters far more than which tier you are on. At 4,507 seats this is less than half the size of a 10,000-seat arena, so the upper tier is not a distant seat.

At the January 2015 reopening the seat width went from 43cm to 51cm and armrests were added. It opened in 1963 as Korea’s first indoor arena, but the seats themselves are not narrow by current standards. The dome is 80m across and 26.53m high.

Can I bring food and drink in?

It depends on the tier. The operator’s FAQ allows simple food in the upper-tier seating only, and bans all food and drink from the lower floor to protect the sprung wood surface. Hot soup, strongly smelling food and alcohol are banned on both tiers.

The whole building is a no-smoking area under Article 9(4) of the National Health Promotion Act. Promoters can tighten these rules further for a given show, so read their notice too.

What accessible facilities are there?

Jangchung Arena has 40 wheelchair spaces, 2 accessible parking bays and 2 accessible toilets on the first floor. Two dedicated lifts connect Dongguk University Station on Line 3 to the arena, with tactile paving and tactile maps along the route and emergency call buttons in the toilets.

The route the operator publishes is: alight at Dongguk University Station, take the station lift, follow signs to Exit 5, use the underground link passage, then the arena’s own lift. There is no surface section at all. For facilities questions, call the Jangchung Arena team on 02-2128-2820.

What is there to do before and after the show?

Per the amenities page, the first floor has a CU convenience store and a restaurant (Hawaiian Poke 1971), and the second floor has a coffee shop. Event amenities include a nursing and childcare room, a press room, a VIP room and a first-aid room, which helps if you are bringing a child.

Whether the cloakroom opens, and on what terms, changes from show to show, so check the promoter’s notice. No arrival time is officially recommended, but with eight gates numbered 1 to 8, knowing your zone letter in advance gets you in faster.
