A revival built on a 65% paid-attendance premiere

‘Badugi and Seri’, an original musical adapted for the stage from an animation screenplay by Kim Jae-hwan — the writer of the television drama ‘Boyhood’ — has confirmed a revival and revealed its lead casting. On 27 August the producer AN Company announced that Shin Sung-ha, formerly of the group TEEN TOP under the stage name L.Joe, and Heo Chan, formerly of the group VICTON, have both been cast as Badugi.

In the show, Badugi is a boisterous dog roaming the Bongcheon-dong neighbourhood who falls for Seri, a stray from Gaepo-dong in Gangnam, at first sight, and then sets off with his friends over Cheonggyesan mountain to get the ailing Seri home. Shin Sung-ha debuted in 2010 as L.Joe of TEEN TOP and has since widened his work as an actor, appearing in the plays ‘Special Liar’ and ‘Offending the Audience’ and the musical ‘Secretly, Greatly’. Heo Chan, who debuted with VICTON in 2016, drew attention for his dancing and a distinctive voice, and has stage credits including the musical ‘On Air’.

For the film director Bong Man-dae, who directs, this is a first stage production. ‘Badugi and Seri’ premiered in October 2025 at Yeollin Theater in Seoul's Daehak-ro, where it recorded a 65% share of paid attendance — unusual for a new original musical — and demonstrated commercial potential. The premiere as registered with KOPIS ran from 29 October to 9 November 2025, priced at KRW 50,000 for all seats, with a running time of 1 hour 30 minutes. The revival follows about a year later on the strength of that result.
