The seat counts here come from counting every seat on the Gunpo Cultural Foundation seat maps and checking the totals against the venue's facility page, its rental facility page, the July 2021 Suri Hall technical rider (PDF) and the figures registered with KOPIS, Korea's national performing-arts database. What is the difference between Suri Hall and Cheoljjuk Hall?

Suri Hall is the 1,142-seat main hall on the ground floor, with a balcony. Cheoljjuk Hall is a 428-seat, single-level hall one floor down. Musicals, orchestras and big concerts usually play Suri Hall; plays and chamber music, where being close to the stage matters, tend to play Cheoljjuk Hall. The outdoor stage has no fixed seats and is listed only by its area, 496 m².

How many seats does Suri Hall have, and how are they split between floors?

Suri Hall has 1,142 seats according to the venue's facility page, a figure that includes 12 wheelchair spaces. Counting the seat map gives 717 seats in ground-floor blocks A, B and C, 26 in the two side boxes (13 each), and 387 in balcony blocks D, E and F. Add the 12 wheelchair spaces and the total is exactly 1,142.

The numbers look different from source to source only because of what each one counts.

The 2021 technical rider lists Suri Hall as 717 on the ground floor, 413 on the second floor and 12 accessible seats on the ground floor. The 717 matches blocks A-C exactly; the 413 equals the balcony's 387 plus the 26 box seats, so the rider appears to count the boxes with the upper level. The 1,142 and 428 registered with KOPIS match the venue's facility page exactly.

Which block should I book in Suri Hall?

For a straight-on view, start with block B in the centre of the ground floor. It runs rows 1 to 16 at 15 or 16 seats a row, 253 seats in all, the largest block in the hall. A cross aisle between rows 9 and 10 splits the ground floor into a front section (rows 1-9) and a rear one (rows 10-17).

• Blocks A and C (232 seats each) start with 10 seats in row 1 and widen to as many as 16 further back. The view is angled, but aisle seats are easy to get in and out of.
• The ground-floor wheelchair spaces are six in block A row 10 and six in block C row 17, which is why A row 10 has only 4 regular seats and C row 17 only 5.
• BOX1 and BOX2 are side boxes on the ground-floor walls, 13 seats each.
• The balcony has blocks D, E and F in rows 1 to 9. Blocks D and F have 17 seats a row in rows 2-6; rows 7 and 8 have a gap in the middle, so the seat numbers split in two.
• Centre balcony block E has 15 seats a row in rows 1-6, dropping to 8, 9 and 10 in rows 7, 8 and 9. For the front of the balcony head-on, look at E rows 1-6.

How do Cheoljjuk Hall seat numbers work?

Cheoljjuk Hall seats are not numbered by row: each block numbers its seats in one running sequence. Centre block Na has 12 rows of 13, numbered 1 to 156, so Na 14 is the first seat of the second row. Side blocks Ga and Da run 1 to 133 each, fanning out from 7 seats in the front row to 12 at the back.

• Ga 133 + Na 156 + Da 133 = 422 seats; the six wheelchair spaces behind block Na bring it to the official 428.
• The exits are at the back corners, marked I-Ga and I-Na.
• The rental page gives the stage as 348.9 m² and the seating area as 333.76 m², so stage and audience are almost the same size.

Does the outdoor stage have seats?

No. The venue lists the outdoor stage only by its area, 496 m², and KOPIS registers it with 0 seats. You sit on a circular stepped stand, so for an outdoor event it pays to arrive early and pick your spot.

How big is the car park at Gunpo Culture & Arts Center, and is it free?

The car park has 322 spaces: 74 above ground and 248 underground. It opens 08:00 to 22:00 every day of the year, according to the venue's directions page. The July 2021 technical rider lists parking as free, but the current parking notice on the website does not mention a fee, so call the venue (+82 31-390-3500) if it matters.

• 248 of the 322 spaces are underground; if the surface lot is full, go straight down.
• The car park closes at 22:00, so plan your exit if the show runs late.
• The venue asks audiences to arrive 30 minutes before curtain. On a show day, allow 40 minutes to an hour if you are driving.

How do I get there by public transport?

Geumjeong Station (Seoul Subway Lines 1 and 4) is the easiest. From exit 6, bus 15 and others take about 10 minutes, according to the venue's directions page. From Sanbon Station on Line 4 it is about a 20-minute walk towards the Seoul Ring Expressway.

How do I book, and when can I cancel?

You can book on the Gunpo Cultural Foundation website at any time, or by phone (+82 31-390-3500 or 3501) Tuesday to Saturday 09:00-18:00, closed 12:00-13:00, Sundays and Mondays. NOL Ticket (formerly Interpark, 1544-1555) also sells tickets, with a booking fee. Tickets cannot be cancelled or changed on the day of the show, per the venue's booking and discounts page.

• Website cancellations within 7 days of booking are free, unless you booked within 10 days of the show.
• Cancelling 9 to 1 days before the show costs 10% of the ticket price.
• Cancelling 10 or more days ahead costs a flat 4,000 won for musicals, concerts and classical, or 2,000 won for plays and exhibitions, capped at 10%.
• The box office opens on show days from about an hour before curtain.
• Bring proof for any discount; without it you pay the difference at the door.

How do I book a wheelchair space?

The venue keeps 12 wheelchair spaces in Suri Hall and 6 in Cheoljjuk Hall; mention it when you book by phone, according to its accessibility services page. The Suri Hall seat map says wheelchair spaces can be booked only by phone or in person through the venue. For the venue's own productions and exhibitions, disabled visitors get 50% off: for a severe disability the discount covers you and one companion, otherwise you alone.

What time should I arrive, and what can I bring in?

The venue's visitor guidelines ask you to arrive 30 minutes before the show and be in your seat 10 minutes before. Late entry after the show starts is generally not allowed.

• No eating in the auditorium. Food, drinks and cameras should go to the cloakroom before the show.
• Suri Hall's cloakroom is in the second-floor lobby (2021 technical rider).
• No photos or video during the performance, and phones must be switched off.
• The 2021 technical rider lists a children's playroom and a nursing room in Suri Hall's second-floor lobby, open from an hour before the show until 30 minutes after.
• The café inside Suri Hall, Are Cafe, opens only on days with the venue's own productions (per the amenities page).
