How do the 994 seats in 웅부홀 break down?

웅부홀 (Ungbu Hall), the main auditorium at 안동문화예술의전당 — the arts centre in Andong, North Gyeongsang — seats 994: 726 on floor 1 and 268 on floor 2, including 10 accessible seats. 726 + 268 = 994, matching the centre's own total.

KOPIS, Korea's national performing-arts data network, records the same figures: 994 for 웅부홀 and 276 for 백조홀.

The Ungbu Hall stage runs to 297㎡ for the main stage, 272㎡ for each of the two side stages and 282㎡ behind. The centre says it installed new stage machinery in 2021, and that an acoustic shell carries sound to every corner of the house.

Which zone has the best view on floor 1?

The head-on reference is zone B, in the centre. Floor 1 is six zones: A, B and C from left to right at the front, then D, E and F behind, with the seating curved around the stage in a fan.

The most useful thing about this venue is that the centre publishes a stage view for every zone. All six floor-1 zones come with a photograph of what the stage actually looks like from there, alongside the seat map. Few venues let you check the sightline from your own zone before booking. Both halls also offer a VR walkthrough.

Zones A and C sit to either side and meet the stage at an angle. Because the seating fans out, the seat numbers closest to zone B are the ones closest to head-on.

Zone E, centre-rear, trades distance for the ability to hold the whole stage and its lighting in one frame. For dance or orchestral work, it can beat the front of zone B.

Zones D and F are the rear corners. On the centre's published seat maps, the wheelchair spaces sit in the back row of these two zones.

And floor 2?

Floor 2 is three zones: G on the left, H in the centre, I on the right, with a door at each side. Zone H is the head-on reference.

One thing to know before booking. Floor 2 has no per-zone stage photographs, only seat maps. The centre's own wording differs between the two: floor 1 zones are described as "stage view and seat map", floor 2 zones only as "seat map". For a floor-2 seat you are working from the map and the wide shots of the house.

A wayfinding note: on the centre's floor plans, the level labelled "268 seats" is the third floor of the building. That is the same number as Ungbu Hall floor 2, so if you have a floor-2 seat, head for building level 3.

Is 백조홀 split by floor, or by seat type?

This is worth pausing on. The centre's own 백조홀 page describes the same numbers two different ways.

• The capacity field: "276 total (floor 1: 165 / floor 2: 111), 3 accessible seats included"
• The descriptive text: "276 seats (165 retractable / 111 fixed)"

The seat map on that same page settles it. 백조홀 has a single floor-1 tab, and all six zones A to F are on it. Ungbu Hall's map, by contrast, has separate floor-1 and floor-2 tabs. The map's description talks only about front and back: "Baekjo Hall floor 1 seating is divided into six areas: front left is zone A... rear left is zone D..."

So the 276 splits front to back, not floor to floor. Zones A, B and C at the front are the 165 retractable seats; zones D, E and F behind are the 111 fixed, stepped seats. That reading also fits the description of the room as a reconfigurable black box where the seating can become stage. The official page says both things, though, so if the seat type matters to your booking, call 054-840-3600.

백조홀 also has a stage view for all six zones. The front rows are close enough to make intimacy the point; the rear is stepped, so less is blocked by the person in front. Both doors are at the back, opposite the stage.

Is parking free?

Yes. There are 123 spaces in the outdoor car park and no charge, with 9 accessible bays.

Those figures need a caveat, though. Both come from an FAQ answer dated 26 January 2017. In the same FAQ the public-transport entry was updated in March 2024, but the parking entries have stood for nine years. The overall capacity is unlikely to have shifted much, but for something like accessible-bay layout, which gets repainted and rearranged, call 054-840-3600 first.

The centre does not push driving. Its audience guidance says: "Traffic around the centre and congestion in the car park may make it difficult to reach your seat on time if you drive. Please use public transport where possible." The booking page adds that "the car park and box office are very busy on performance days, so please arrive at least 30 minutes before the performance".

How long is the walk from the bus?

The shortest is route 순환3-1, getting off at 자이아파트입구, a 9-minute walk. The address is 경북 안동시 축제장길 66 (안흥동 373-4).

Is there a left-luggage desk?

Yes, open from one hour before the performance until 30 minutes after it ends. Anything not collected is held by the house manager and donated to charity after a month.

There is a list of what it will and will not take.

• Accepted: bouquets, shopping bags, food, cameras, coats
• Not accepted: pets, valuables, wallets, cash, expensive jewellery, musical instruments

The desk also keeps a first-aid kit, masks and sanitary products. Opera glasses are not available to hire, so bring your own binoculars for a floor-2 or rear seat. Lost property goes through the information desk on 054-840-3600.

How early do the auditorium doors open?

The centre's guidance is arrive 30 minutes before, doors 10 minutes before. The house does not open 30 minutes ahead; that is the arrival time, and seating starts at 10 minutes.

Arrive late and you may be held out to keep the room quiet, then seated by an usher in a spare seat near the door, moving to your own seat at the interval. Some productions do not admit latecomers at all.

Food may not be brought in, but bottled water with a lid is allowed in the auditorium. On age limits the centre only says that "some performances restrict the admission age", so check the individual booking page. Bouquets and flower stands may not be brought into the hall or displayed in the lobby.

How does booking and discounting work?

There are three sellers: Ticketlink, Naver, and the centre's own site. Booking through the Ticketlink page reached via the centre's website waives the booking fee. Individual phone bookings are not accepted.

In-person booking, for the centre's own productions only, is at the second-floor office, weekdays 09:00~18:00, closed 12:00~13:00 and on public holidays. Same-day sales start at the box office one hour before curtain.

Wheelchair spaces can only be booked by phone, by the wheelchair user, through the programming team on 054-840-3614.

One ticket type rarely gets mentioned. The same-day discount ticket puts any show priced above 30,000 won at 10,000 won, for holders of a Culture Voucher card or Andong residents of school age, limited to unsold reserved seats and sold only at the venue on the day.

The disability discount covers the holder plus one companion for severe disability, the holder alone for mild. Discounted bookings must be collected in person as paper tickets, with proof of eligibility. Undiscounted bookings admit straight from the barcode in your confirmation text.

The cancellation deadline is 17:00 the day before the performance. After that, and on the day itself, nothing can be cancelled, changed or refunded. Cancel before midnight on the day you booked, though, and there is no fee at all — the booking fee comes back too.

Seats cannot be changed after booking. To move, you cancel and rebook, and your original seat is not held for you.

What access provision is there?

안동문화예술의전당 runs captioning, audio description and sign-language interpretation where possible at designated accessible performances and exhibitions. Guide dogs are welcomed, and the centre employs an access manager to support disabled artists and audiences. It also commits to large-print publicity and plain-language performance information.

Wheelchair spaces are booked by phone on 054-840-3614, as above. In Ungbu Hall they sit in the back row of zones D and F; in Baekjo Hall, in the back row.
