Parking and seat views at 현대카드 언더스테이지: 188 seats, 168 with the stage extended

Can you park at 현대카드 언더스테이지?

Not as an audience member. The official venue guidance for 현대카드 언더스테이지 (Hyundai Card Understage), the live music venue in Hannam-dong, Seoul, states plainly: "No parking or valet service (please use nearby public car parks)."

That does not mean the building has no spaces. The venue-hire page lists, among the things provided with a booking, "parking for performers and crew, up to 14 vehicles". So there are 14 spaces, allocated to performers and crew, and none of them open to the audience. It is a policy, not a shortage of space.

If you drive, check availability before you set off. The Seoul parking information system shows live space counts for public car parks around Hannam-dong and Itaewon-ro.

Which subway exit?

Line 6, 한강진역 (Hangangjin), exit 3. The address is 서울시 용산구 이태원로 246 (한남동), on the main Itaewon-ro frontage, so the building is easy enough to spot.

Buses 110A, 110B, 400, 405 and circular route 03 run along Itaewon-ro.

The official site gives directions only as a Kakao Map link, so the exit number and bus routes above come from performance-venue databases such as The Musical and Melon Ticket.

Is it seated or standing?

It depends on the show. Understage is a single reconfigurable room, so the same address gives you a completely different evening depending on what you booked.

Hyundai Card's official seating chart PDF states the capacities directly.

This is where a widely repeated figure gets it backwards. The seated capacity is 188, and extending the stage reduces it to 168. The official chart reads: "Seated performance: 188 seats (168 when the stage is extended)." Pushing the stage forward takes the front rows, so the number falls rather than rises. If you have seen it written as 168 rising to 188, the direction is inverted.

Which seat numbers are at the front?

Lower numbers are closer to the stage. Seats 1–12 are the front row; 169–188 are the back row.

The official chart shows ten rows, divided left and right by a centre aisle. Working back from the stage:

• Row 1: 12 seats (1–12)
• Row 2: 16 seats (13–28)
• Rows 3 to 10: 20 seats each (29–188)

12 + 16 + (20 × 8) = 188, matching the stated capacity exactly.

The numbering alternates direction row by row. Row 1 runs 1 to 12 from left to right; row 2 runs the other way, with 28 at the far left and 13 at the far right. So a given number sits on opposite sides in odd and even rows. Judging your position from the number alone on a booking screen can put you on the wrong side of the room.

The chart marks more than seats. The sound and lighting console sits centre-rear, with a minibar to its right, and there are two gates at the back. A curved fence runs along the front of the stage.

What is the view like?

Three dimensions decide the sightline for a seated show, and all three are in Hyundai Card's published venue specification.

The whole house is a little over 10 metres deep. From the back row to the front of the stage is 10.25m, so all 188 seats sit within 10 metres of the stage. Against the 30–40m you get at the back of a large theatre's stalls, every seat here is close.

There is a catch. The floor is essentially flat. Among the visitor posts on Hyundai Card DIVE is one that says, of a April 2023 visit, "there is no rake to the seating, so your view is going to depend on who is sitting in front of you". With the stage only 91cm high, the person in front matters more than in a stepped auditorium. If you are shorter, a front row beats a back one.

Standing shows have no allocated positions; you take your spot in the order you come in. Arriving early is the only way to be near the front.

Are there lockers?

Yes. The official seating chart marks two coin locker areas, both beyond the gates at the back of the house, on the right-hand side. Neither the price nor the number of lockers is published, so call 02-331-6301 if you need to rely on them.

Where do you book, and is there a discount?

Online booking is through the DIVE app, on each performance's own page. The seller can differ from show to show.

Tickets are also sold at the ticket box at the outdoor plaza entrance on level 1, though same-day sales stop once the online allocation sells out. Payment is by credit or debit card only; cash is not accepted.

There is one standing discount. Paying with any Hyundai Card for a Curated performance takes 10% off immediately, excluding unnamed corporate cards and gift cards.

Admission is for the ticket holder and the person who made the booking. Age limits and admission times are announced per performance in the DIVE app. If your identity cannot be confirmed on the day by the means announced in advance, you lose not only entry but any right to cancel, change or refund — so check whose name the booking is in.

Any rules to know before you go in?

The official notices list four.

• No outside food
• No pets
• No smoking anywhere in the building
• No filming, except at performances where the artist has given prior permission

Outside performance times the space is open Tuesday to Saturday 12:00~21:00 and Sunday and public holidays 12:00~18:00, closed over the Lunar New Year and Chuseok holidays. It does not open on Mondays. Admission times on performance days follow the individual show's notice.

Which level is the performance space on?

Audiences watch on basement level 2, the STAGE. The official floor guide lists Studio on B1 and Stage on B2, and the venue-hire page describes "the STAGE on Understage's second basement level, its centre left wide open". The published specifications also show dressing rooms and a vehicle and equipment loading entrance on B3.

One difference from our own data is worth flagging. KOPIS, Korea's national performing-arts data network, records this venue's halls as 스튜디오 with 180 seats and Vinyl & Plastic (the music library) with 25. Neither the name nor the number matches the 188 on the official seating chart. The KOPIS "Studio" appears to take its name from the B1 Studio, and to be recorded separately from the 188-seat B2 STAGE where seated performances actually take place. For booking purposes, trust the official seating chart and the booking page.

In short

1. There is no audience parking. The official guidance says "no parking or valet service", and the building's 14 spaces are reserved for performers and crew. Line 6 to 한강진역 exit 3 is the dependable way in.
2. Seated capacity is 188, falling to 168 when the stage is extended. Lower numbers are nearer the stage, seats 1–12 being the front row, and the numbering reverses direction between odd and even rows.
3. The house is only 10.25m deep, so every seat is close — but the floor is flat. With the stage at 91cm, choose your row with the person in front of you in mind.
