Seat views at 충무아트센터: all 1,253 seats of the Grand Theatre, plus parking and lockers

충무아트센터's Grand Theatre seats 1,253 — 683 in the stalls, 277 and 280 in the two balconies, plus 13 wheelchair spaces — and the centre of the stalls sees best. Block B is the pick in the 332-seat thrust house 중극장 블랙, and in the 92-seat 소극장(씨네마) the seat hardly matters.

How many seats does 충무아트센터 대극장 have, and which level sees best?

충무아트센터 대극장 (Grand Theatre), the main house of the Chungmu Art Center in Sindang-dong, central Seoul, seats 1,253, and the steadiest sightlines are in the centre of the stalls. The Jung-gu Culture Foundation seating chart gives 683 seats on the first floor (6 wheelchair spaces), 277 on the second (7 wheelchair spaces) and 280 on the third. Those three floors add up to 1,240 fixed seats; the 13 wheelchair spaces make the official total of 1,253.

The stalls are raked steeply enough that even row 1 looks slightly down onto the stage, so almost no seat is blocked by the head in front. Row 21, the back of the stalls, still frames the whole stage in one view, but it is far enough that reading faces needs opera glasses.

How different are the second and third balconies in 충무아트센터 대극장?

The front rows of the first balcony look square-on down at the stage and are the next best thing to centre stalls. Side boxes on that same level are the exception: the handrail and the angle of the wall can cut off one edge of the stage. The upper balcony is far enough back that you watch composition and lighting rather than faces, though nothing structural blocks the view.

Which block is best in 충무아트센터 중극장 블랙?

중극장 블랙 (Black Theatre) is a 332-seat thrust house, and block B, facing the stage head-on, gives the most balanced view. Because the seating wraps around the stage, all three blocks — A, B and C — sit close to the action. Blocks A and C look at the stage on the diagonal, which for some productions puts you nearer the performers than block B does.

Does the seat you pick matter in 소극장(씨네마)?

Barely. 소극장(씨네마) (Cinema Studio) is a 92-seat proscenium theatre on basement level 1, so even row O at the back sits about as far from the stage as the middle of the Grand Theatre stalls. With only fifteen rows, lettered A to O, the date you book matters more than the seat number.

Why do the KOPIS seat counts differ from the venue's own?

KOPIS, Korea's official performing-arts data network, registers 충무아트센터 (FC000014) as five halls totalling 2,045 seats, and that record disagrees with the venue's own published charts for all three public theatres. KOPIS lists 1,250 seats for 대극장 and 320 for 중극장 블랙, recording 12 and 5 accessible spaces separately, and still carries the small house under a name the venue's site no longer uses: 소극장 블루, at 225 seats. Both figures are correct at their own source, so book against whatever chart the ticket seller shows.

What does parking at 충무아트센터 cost, and how many spaces are there?

Ticket holders pay a flat 4,000 won for four hours, and the garage holds 181 cars: 81 on basement 3, 96 on basement 4 and 4 accessible bays at ground level. Beyond four hours the rate is 500 won per 10 minutes, and the garage runs from 05:00 to 23:50. Payment is by credit or debit card only; cash is not accepted.

Disabled, light and low-emission vehicles are discounted automatically through the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's system; every other discount has to be claimed by showing the proof card to the automated payment machine. Those machines sit in the G-floor lobby (beside the cloakroom), the second-floor lobby by the emergency stairs, the basement-1 information desk, in front of the basement-3 and basement-4 lifts, and at the rear-gate exit booth.

The rates and discounts above are as 충무아트센터 stated them in August 2026. As of September 2026 neither the directions page nor the amenities page publishes a parking tariff, so call the ARS line on 02-2230-6600 before you set off. The 4,000-won four-hour rate for ticket holders is also listed by PlayDB's venue directory.

What if the 충무아트센터 car park is full?

The venue itself tells you to use a nearby paid car park, and names five of them. Its directions page warns that "the car park frequently fills up and backs up on entry, which can make it difficult to get into the auditorium before curtain". The same page also states plainly that no performance discount applies at those nearby car parks — so do not expect anything like the 4,000-won rate.

The garage entrance is not by the main gate: it is on the 신당역 exit 10 side, around by the rear gate. The ground-level accessible bays are on the same side.

Which subway exit is closest to 충무아트센터?

Line 6 신당역 exit 9 is closest, 50m toward 동대문역사공원. From line 2 신당역 it is exit 1 and 150m; from 동대문역사문화공원역 on lines 2, 4 and 5 it is exit 2 and 300m toward 신당사거리. All three are inside a ten-minute walk, and the venue recommends public transport over driving.

Where is the 충무아트센터 cloakroom and what can you leave there?

The cloakroom for ticket holders is on the G floor and opens one hour before curtain, staying open until the performance ends. It takes the things you cannot carry into the auditorium — rustling plastic bags, bouquets, food — and the enquiry line is 02-2230-6602. Lost property is kept for up to two months.

The official amenities page lists no charge against the cloakroom. On the same page opera glasses carry an explicit 5,000-won hire fee, so the absence is best read as the cloakroom being free rather than as an omission.

Exhibition visitors get a separate bank of self-service lockers, also on the G floor, open 10:00–19:00 with enquiries on 02-2230-6739; if you forget the code, ask at the gallery desk. A phone charging station on the first floor handles 8-pin, USB-C and 5-pin cables, and the information desk is staffed 9:00–18:00 on weekdays.

Can you hire opera glasses at 충무아트센터 on the day?

Not as a rule. 충무아트센터 runs opera glasses on advance online booking only, and reservations close two hours before the performance starts. Hire costs 5,000 won, collection is at the booking booth on the G floor, and you pick them up between one hour before curtain and the start of the show.

Walk-up hire is possible when stock is left over, but it is the exception — so book ahead if you are sitting in the upper balcony. The third balcony and the back rows of the stalls are far enough that opera glasses genuinely help.

In short

  1. Centre stalls in 대극장, block B in 중극장 블랙, and anywhere at all in 소극장(씨네마).
  2. Parking is a capacity problem, not a price problem: 4,000 won for four hours, but only 181 spaces, which is why the venue itself points you at nearby car parks — where no performance discount applies.
  3. Leave bags at the G-floor cloakroom from one hour before curtain, and reserve opera glasses online at least two hours ahead.

Seat counts, floor breakdowns, directions and amenity details were checked against the Jung-gu Culture Foundation website — its seating-chart, directions and amenities pages — on 9 September 2026. Parking rates and discounts are as 충무아트센터 stated them in August 2026; fees and hours change, so confirm on 02-2230-6600 before visiting. The KOPIS registration is on our 충무아트센터 venue page.
