Nowon Arts Center parking for ₩1,000 and the 552-seat Grand Theater seating chart: only 103 underground spaces since the surface lot was demolished (checked October 2026)
At Nowon Arts Center, ticket holders for the Grand or Small Theater pay ₩1,000 to park for the length of the show plus 1 hour either side. The surface lot was demolished for construction next door, leaving 103 spaces on basement levels 1–3, and the Grand Theater, remodeled in 2025, now has 552 seats (rows A–N on floor 1, O–V on floor 2).

Nowon Arts Center (노원문화예술회관) is the Nowon Cultural Foundation's performing arts venue at 181 Junggye-ro, Nowon-gu, Seoul. The building has five floors above ground and three below: a 552-seat Grand Theater, a 292-seat Small Theater, the Nowon Art Museum, and parking on basement levels 1–3. Parking is cheap for ticket holders at ₩1,000, but there are fewer spaces than a fifth of the Grand Theater's seats.
We checked the Nowon Cultural Foundation's official pages in October 2026: the parking guide, directions, the arts center's facilities page, audience etiquette and performance booking terms. We counted the Grand Theater seating chart zone by zone against the official per-floor totals and compared it with the KOPIS (Korea Performing Arts Box Office Information System) records we hold. Note that the venue website listed in KOPIS (nowonart.kr) now points to an unrelated site; the foundation's official website is nowonarts.kr.

Is parking really ₩1,000 for show-goers at Nowon Arts Center?
Yes. According to the foundation's parking guide, audiences of the Grand and Small Theaters pay ₩1,000 for "the performance time plus 1 hour before and after". For a 2-hour show starting at 7:30 pm, the four hours from 6:30 pm to 10:30 pm cost ₩1,000.
At the general rate (₩250 per 5 minutes, ₩3,000 an hour), the same four hours would cost ₩12,000. The official guide does not say how the audience rate is applied (ticket check, plate registration, etc.), so show your ticket at the information desk or box office before you leave.
| Visitor | Parking fee |
|---|---|
| Grand / Small Theater audience | ₩1,000 for show time plus 1 hour before and after |
| Exhibition visitors | Free for 2 hours |
| Visitors making inquiries or buying tickets | Free for 1 hour |
| Culture class students, district arts groups, volunteers | Free for time of use plus 1 hour before and after |
| Event staff | ₩4,000 per day |
| Other vehicles (general) | ₩250 per 5 minutes |
| Drop-off within 10 minutes | Free |
Discounts are 80% for people with disabilities and national merit recipients, and 50% for compact cars, eco-friendly cars and families with three or more children, plus any vehicle entitled by law. Only the single largest discount applies, proof is required, and amounts under ₩100 after discount are not charged.

Does the Nowon Children's Theater have the same parking rate?
No. The Nowon Children's Theater (노원어린이극장), run by the same foundation, is on basement level 1 of the KT Nowon branch building and has no parking of its own. It uses the KT building's underground car park at ₩1,000 per 10 minutes, with no discounts. The foundation recommends public transport because shoppers at the building's cafés and restaurants fill the lot (parking inquiries: +82-2-2289-3453).
So check which venue your ticket is for before relying on the "₩1,000" figure. The Children's Theater is a 5-minute walk from Nowon Station exit 2 on Line 4, or 3 minutes from exit 5 on Line 7.
How many parking spaces does Nowon Arts Center have?
There are 103 spaces on basement levels 1–3. The surface lot was fully closed and demolished for construction of the Junggye Culture and Health Center (중계문화보건센터) next door.
| Level | Spaces |
|---|---|
| Basement 1 | 35 (including 3 accessible spaces) |
| Basement 2 | 35 |
| Basement 3 | 33 |
| Total | 103 |
The arts center's facilities page on the same website still said "125 spaces including 22 on the surface" when we checked in October 2026. Take away the 22 surface spaces and you get today's 103, so a figure of 125 is from before the construction. The Junggye Culture and Health Center, one basement level and four above ground, broke ground in March 2025 with a target opening in 2026.

With 103 spaces for a 552-seat Grand Theater, arrive early or take the bus on a big night. One-ton box trucks, buses and trucks of 2.5 tons or more cannot enter. Since 1 July 2026, the foundation has also ended its five-day vehicle rotation (no parking on a set weekday by last plate digit), so any car can park on any day.
The lot closes at 6 pm — what about evening shows?
The official hours are 09:00–18:00, Monday to Sunday (closed on public holidays). The foundation says hours "may be extended when performances, exhibitions or events increase demand and cause congestion", and adds that "outside operating hours, parking may be charged when demand is high and order needs to be kept".
The guide says nothing specific about leaving after an evening show. If that worries you, call the car park (+82-2-2289-3417) to check how it will run that day. Dropping someone off at the door is free if you leave within 10 minutes.
How do I get to Nowon Arts Center from the subway?
The arts center is not next to a subway station, so the easiest way is one bus from Junggye or Hagye Station on Line 7, or Sanggye Station on Line 4. Get off at "Nowon Arts Center / Buram Elementary School" (노원문화예술회관.불암초등학교).
| From | Exit | Bus | Get off at |
|---|---|---|---|
| Junggye Stn (Line 7) | 2 | 1140 | Nowon Arts Center |
| Junggye Stn (Line 7) | 2 | 1135 | Junggye 1-dong Community Center, then walk |
| Hagye Stn (Line 7) | 3 | 1141 | Nowon Arts Center |
| Sanggye Stn (Line 4) | 4 | 1143, 1140 | Nowon Arts Center |
| Sanggye Stn (Line 4) | 4 | 1142, 1224 | Eunhaeng Sageori, then walk |
| Nowon Stn (Lines 4 and 7) | Line 4 exit 1 | 1142 | Eunhaeng Sageori, then walk |
The official directions page lists one route the original blog post missed: bus 1131 runs from Seokgye Station via Wolgye and Hagye Stations to the Buram Elementary stop. Coming from Wolgye (Line 1) or Seokgye (Lines 1 and 6), it gets you there without a transfer.
By car, set your navigation to "노원문화예술회관" or "중계로 181". Per the official directions, from Dongil-ro turn right at Junggye Station, then right again at Eulji Elementary School and go straight; from Nowon-gil turn left at Sangmyung Girls' High School, then right at Eulji Elementary School and go straight.
How many seats does the Grand Theater have, and how are they divided?
After its 2025 remodel, the Nowon Arts Center Grand Theater has 552 seats. Per the official facilities page: on floor 1, 358 fixed seats, 7 movable seats and 2 wheelchair spaces; on floor 2, 185 seats. The remodel added a lift stage, an orchestra pit, an adjustable acoustic shell and new stage lighting.
The KOPIS record we hold still lists the Grand Theater at 608 seats, which appears to be the pre-remodel figure left unchanged; if you have seen a number in the 600s in older sources, that is why. The Small Theater matches in both: 292 seats (288 regular plus 4 accessible).

Counting the official seating chart zone by zone gives this:
| Floor | Zone | Seats / rows | Count |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Ga (left) | Nos. 1–7, rows A–N | 89 |
| 1 | Na (center) | Nos. 8–24, rows A–K | 187 |
| 1 | Da (right) | Nos. 26–32, rows A–N | 89 (incl. 7 movable in row G) |
| 1 | Wheelchair | Both ends of row M | 2 |
| 2 | Ra (left) | Nos. 1–8, rows O–V | 64 |
| 2 | Ma (center) | Nos. 9–23, rows O–S | 57 |
| 2 | Ba (right) | Nos. 24–31, rows O–V | 64 |
The three floor 1 zones add up to 365, exactly the official 358 fixed plus 7 movable seats, and the three floor 2 zones add up to 185, matching the official figure. With the 2 wheelchair spaces, that makes 552.

The official pages give two figures for accessible seating. The Grand Theater seat breakdown lists 2 wheelchair spaces, plus 4 more when the 7 movable seats are removed (6 at most), while the facilities paragraph on the same page says "8 seats in the Grand Theater". If you need a wheelchair space, call the main number (+82-2-2289-3400) before booking.
Which seats should I choose in the Grand Theater?
For a head-on view, choose zone Na on floor 1: 17 center seats per row from row A to row K. Floor 1 is only 14 rows deep (A–N), so even the back is not far from the stage.
- Row G has open space in front. On the chart, a cross aisle runs between rows F and G. Seats 26–32 of row G in zone Da are movable and may become wheelchair spaces for some shows.
- On floor 2, the center is zone Ma, rows O–Q, with 15 seats each. Rows R and S have only 3 seats on each side of the center, and rows T–V have none in the middle.
- Rows L–N on floor 1 have side seats only; the center zone Na ends at row K.
- You can preview the view. The foundation's Nowon Arts Center VR tour shows what the stage looks like from the seats.
What should I know about booking and getting in?
Booking the foundation's own productions on its website carries no booking fee; other ticket sites charge one. Cancelling by 11:59 pm on the day you book costs nothing. For discounted tickets, bring physical proof — ID, disability card, student card and the like — when you collect them.
- Arrive 30 minutes early and take your seat 10 minutes before the start; latecomers may not be admitted.
- Food (except capped bottled water), bouquets and cameras are not allowed in the auditorium.
- Main phone: +82-2-2289-3400
In short
- Grand and Small Theater audiences park for ₩1,000 for the show time plus 1 hour either side; other vehicles pay ₩250 per 5 minutes.
- With the surface lot demolished, there are only 103 underground spaces, and official hours are 09:00–18:00, so for an evening show arrive early or call +82-2-2289-3417.
