Pocheon Banwol Art Hall main theater: seat views in a single raked 910-seat house, and parking for 223 cars (checked October 2026)
The main theater at Pocheon Banwol Art Hall is a single raked house of 910 seats (461 in front, 449 behind) with no balcony, so no seat has its view cut by an upper tier. The on-site car park has 223 spaces per the foundation and is listed as free, but it is tight for a sold-out show, so arrive early (as of October 2026).

The main theater at Pocheon Banwol Art Hall (포천반월아트홀, a public arts center run by the Pocheon Culture & Tourism Foundation) is a single raked house of 910 seats with no balcony. No upper tier hangs over the back rows, so no seat loses the top of the stage, and the on-site car park has 223 spaces. The figures below were checked in October 2026 against the foundation's website and the main-theater technical data sheet it updated in November 2025.
How many seats does the main theater have, and is there really no balcony?
The main theater has 910 seats: 900 standard seats and 10 wheelchair spaces. The foundation's seating plan page states that it is "a theater with a rake and no split between a first and second floor." Rows 1 to 11 nearest the stage form the front section, rows 12 to 24 behind a cross-aisle form the rear section, and the house is divided left to right into five blocks named ga, na, da, ra and ma (가·나·다·라·마).
The foundation also offers the seating plan as a spreadsheet (saved August 2025). Its block totals are below, and the two sections add up to exactly the 910 on the website.
| Block | Front (rows 1-11) | Rear (rows 12-24) |
|---|---|---|
| ga | 82 | 94 |
| na | 99 | 92 |
| da | 99 | 81 |
| ra | 99 | 88 |
| ma | 82 | 94 |
| Total | 461 | 449 (incl. 10 wheelchair) |
The last row differs by block: ga and ma run to row 24, na and ra to row 23 (row 24 behind ra is wheelchair space), and the centre block da ends at row 21. Every front-section row in block da has 9 seats.

There are six doors. Doors 1 and 2 are on the left wall and 5 and 6 on the right; doors 3 and 4 come in by stairs at rows 13 to 15 of the rear section, between blocks na and da and between da and ra. The venue facts page gives the seating area as 29.8 m wide by 26.3 m deep.
How do the views differ between the front and rear sections?
The front section is for faces, the rear section is for the whole stage picture. With no balcony, the usual worry that the back of the stalls is boxed in by the floor above does not apply here.
| Where | Best for | Worth knowing |
|---|---|---|
| Front, rows 1-3 | Being close to the cast | The stage is 85 cm above the house floor, so you look up |
| Front, rows 4-9 | Plays, musicals, recitals | Close enough for faces, high enough to see the stage floor |
| Front row 11 and rear rows 12-13 | Open space in front of you | The cross-aisle handrail may sit near eye level |
| Rear, rows 14-20 | Dance, orchestra, concerts | The rake lifts you over the heads in front |
The 85 cm stage height comes from the foundation's main-theater technical data sheet. The house rises toward the back, so from the rear section you look down onto the stage.

Which block and row should a first-time visitor book?
For a first visit, look first at block da front rows 5-9, then block da rear rows 14-17, then the seats in blocks na and ra nearest the centre. This is our editorial reading of the official plan, not a foundation recommendation.
| Seat | Why |
|---|---|
| Block da, front rows 5-9 | Dead centre, close enough for faces |
| Block da, rear rows 14-17 | Centre view of the whole stage |
| Blocks na and ra, inner side | A shallow-angle fallback when the centre sells out |
The outer seats of blocks ga and ma look at the stage at an angle and can lose the far wing. The inner seats of blocks na and ra in rear rows 13-15 sit beside the stairs to doors 3 and 4, so latecomers pass through your view, though that also makes them easy seats to get in and out of.

Where are the wheelchair spaces, and how do I book one?
All 10 wheelchair spaces are in the rear section. The seating plan puts 7 in row 12 (2 in block na, 3 in da, 2 in ra) and 3 in row 24 behind block ra, and marks a separate wheelchair entrance at the back right.
Wheelchair spaces can be booked only by wheelchair users, and not online or in the app. Under the foundation's booking guide, you book by phone with the Pocheon Culture & Tourism Foundation on 031-535-3612. Korea Tourism Organization's accessible-travel listing notes accessible parking, a step-free main entrance, a lift and an accessible toilet.
What changed in the 2025 renovation?
The main theater closed in June 2025 for about two months and reopened on 21 August 2025. The work answered years of complaints about uncomfortable, creaking seats and a worn floor since the hall opened in October 2003; Metro Seoul and Focus Economy reported the foundation's announcement on 25 August 2025.
| Item | Change |
|---|---|
| Seats | Replaced with 901 ergonomically designed seats in flame-retardant fabric |
| Floor | Solid oak, said to cut stage-light glare and carry sound better |
| First show back | Family musical "Watermelon Pool" (〈수박 수영장〉) |

Why do sources give 910, 900 or 901 seats?
The main theater's capacity is 910; the other numbers are subsets of it or older round figures. The KOPIS (Korea Performing Arts Box Office Information System) venue record we hold also lists the main theater at 910, matching the foundation exactly.
| Figure | Source | What it counts |
|---|---|---|
| 910 | Foundation seating plan, venue facts, technical data; KOPIS | Full capacity incl. 10 wheelchair spaces |
| 900 | Foundation seating plan | Standard seats, excluding wheelchair spaces |
| 901 | August 2025 reopening reports | Seats reported as newly installed |
| 891 | Foundation seating-plan spreadsheet | Standard seats on sale, after 9 house seats |
| about 900 | Encyclopedia of Pocheon Culture, KTO summary | Round figure used since opening |
The reported 901 matches no total the foundation itself publishes. The spreadsheet's 891 seats on sale plus 10 wheelchair spaces does make 901, but we could not confirm that is where the press figure came from. When booking, go by the official plan: 910 seats, 900 standard and 10 wheelchair.
The small theater in the same building varies more. KOPIS lists 252 seats, the foundation's venue facts page 227 (incl. 3 accessible), the foundation's small-theater spreadsheet saved April 2025 gives 211 (205 on sale, 3 wheelchair, 3 house), and the KTO summary says 257.
How many parking spaces are there, and is parking free?
Pocheon Banwol Art Hall's on-site car park has 223 spaces according to the foundation's technical data sheet (updated November 2025), including 5 accessible, 5 EV and 4 compact-car spaces. The same sheet gives the car park's hours as 09:00 to 22:00.
Korea Tourism Organization lists parking as free. The foundation's directions page and technical sheet do not mention a fee, so if you are unsure for a particular event, call the main line on 031-535-3600.
| Source | Spaces | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Foundation technical data sheet (Nov 2025) | 223 | Incl. 5 accessible, 5 EV, 4 compact; 09:00-22:00 |
| Korea Tourism Organization visitor info | about 233 | Same breakdown; free |
| Encyclopedia of Pocheon Culture, KTO accessible-travel summary | 269 | Description dating from the early years |
The 233 and 223 share the same breakdown and appear to describe the same car park; we follow the foundation's 223. A sold-out 910-seat show means about four audience members per space, which is tight. The foundation's etiquette guide asks you to arrive 30 minutes early; by car, leave a little earlier than that. We found no overflow parking in the foundation's materials.
How do I get there by public transport or by car?
The address is 111 Cheongseong-ro, Gunnae-myeon, Pocheon-si, Gyeonggi-do. The foundation's directions page gives two driving routes: the Jungbu Expressway to Toegyewon IC then National Route 47, or the Dongbu Expressway through Uijeongbu then Route 43 toward Pocheon.
By public transport you take an intercity or express bus to Pocheon and continue from town. The foundation lists these departures:
| From | Bus to Pocheon | Hours |
|---|---|---|
| Dong Seoul Bus Terminal | Express, about every 15 min | 06:00-22:00 |
| Sangbong Terminal | Express, about every 40 min | 06:00-20:50 |
| Suyu (Line 4 Suyu Station) | To Pocheon and Sindan-dong | 06:00-21:30 |
| Uijeongbu | Seat bus 138 from Uijeongbu Station | First bus 06:20 |
The foundation does not list the last leg from central Pocheon to the hall, so check a map app before you set out, and compare the curtain-down time with the last bus home.
What rules should I know before the show?
For foundation-produced shows, preschool children are not admitted except at children's performances, and flowers and food may not be taken into the auditorium. The rest, from the foundation's booking guide and etiquette page:
| Item | Rule |
|---|---|
| Tickets | NOL Ticket 1544-1555 (09:00-18:00, every day) |
| On the day | Remaining seats for foundation shows sold at the venue (foundation 031-535-3612, weekdays 09:00-18:00) |
| House opens | 30 minutes before curtain (technical data) |
| Arrive | 30 minutes early, seated 10 minutes before |
| Not allowed in | Flowers, food and bulky items go to the cloakroom |
| Filming | No unauthorised photos, video or recording |
| Standing | Not permitted |
