Seogwipo Arts Center seating and parking: the best seats of 802, and a 240-car lot (checked October 2026)

The Seogwipo Arts Center main theatre in Jeju has 802 seats (612 downstairs, 190 in the balcony), and the centre of rows F–J on the first floor is the safest choice. The car park holds 240 cars but fills on show days, so the venue asks you to arrive at least 30 minutes early; no parking fee is published (checked October 2026).

서귀포예술의전당 (Seogwipo Arts Center) sits at 270 Taepyeong-ro on the edge of Sammaebong Park, and it is the only full-scale performing arts centre in Seogwipo, on the south coast of Jeju. Everything below was re-checked in October 2026 against the arts centre's own pages — the venue overview, seating charts, facilities, audience rules and FAQ — and against the KOPIS (Korea Performing Arts Box Office Information System) records we hold.

How many seats do the Seogwipo Arts Center theatres have?

The Seogwipo Arts Center main theatre (대극장) has 802 seats: 612 on the first floor and 190 on the second. The small theatre (소극장) has 190 seats on a single level. Both figures match exactly between the official venue overview and the KOPIS hall records.

HallSeatsFloors and rowsIntended use (official)
Main theatre8021F 612 (rows A–P) + 2F 190 (rows Q–U)Musicals, drama, dance, opera, classical
Small theatre190Single level, rows A–MRecitals, small ensembles, small-scale drama

We counted the small theatre off the official seating chart to check it. Row A has 10 seats, B has 12, C has 14, rows D to L have 16 each (nine rows, 144 seats) and row M has 10: exactly 190. The two wheelchair spaces in the middle of row M are drawn in addition to that number.

KOPIS lists 67 productions that opened, or are scheduled to open, at Seogwipo Arts Center since October 2025. Of those, 54 are in the main theatre and 13 in the small theatre. Classical music accounts for 35 of them, more than half; musicals (11) and plays (7) come next. The building was completed in January 2014 and is closed on 1 January, Seollal and Chuseok.

Where should I sit on the main floor of the Seogwipo Arts Center main theatre?

For a first visit, the centre block of rows F to J on the first floor is the safest choice. The first floor runs from row A to row P, split by two aisles into left, centre and right blocks, with a cross-aisle and side doors between rows J and K.

  • On the official chart, row A's centre block is seats 9–25 (17 seats) and row H's centre block is seats 14–30 (17 seats).
  • An orchestra lift (14.2 m wide) sits between the stage and row A. When a production uses the pit, as an opera does, the front rows are that much further from the stage.
  • Wheelchair spaces are at row O seats 30–32 and 10–12 and four on each side of row P — seven on each side, in front of the two rear doors.

The stage itself is a 675.87 m² proscenium that can hold 250 performers, and the arts centre advertises a 1.5-second reverberation time with even electronic sound across both floors.

Does the balcony railing block the view from the Seogwipo Arts Center second floor?

The second floor (rows Q–U, 190 seats) gives a good view of the whole stage, but the official booking guide warns that "a safety railing is installed on the second floor and some people may find it uncomfortable". The railing is drawn directly in front of row Q, the front row, so rows R and S are the safer pick if it bothers you.

  • There are only five rows, so even row U is not much further away than row Q.
  • For dance, where formations across the stage floor matter, the centre of the second floor is an advantage.
  • With a small child, the railing can cut across the bottom of the view; look at the first floor first.

Where should I sit in the Seogwipo Arts Center small theatre?

The Seogwipo Arts Center small theatre has 190 seats in 13 rows (A–M) on one level, so every seat is close to the stage. Rows D–F in the centre block, or row G just behind the cross-aisle, are the comfortable picks.

  • Row A has only 10 seats and is very close; for a play you may have to turn your head to take in the whole stage.
  • The cross-aisle and side doors between rows F and G give row G extra legroom.
  • The two wheelchair spaces are in the middle of row M, and seats 6, 7 and 8 in row L are marked as accessible seats.

  • The Korea Tourism Organization's accessibility listing for the venue says "no accessible parking", which contradicts that release and its photographs. Wheelchair users should confirm with +82 64-760-3344 before setting out.

When can I collect tickets at Seogwipo Arts Center, and when is the cancellation deadline?

Tickets can be collected at the first-floor lobby information desk from two hours before curtain, and the auditorium usually opens 30 minutes before. Bookings on Seogwipo E-Ticket carry no booking fee and close at 17:00 the day before; nothing can be cancelled or refunded on the day.

Two figures disagree between the arts centre's own pages. Going by the earlier one is safe in both cases.

  • The box office sells only seats left over after online booking, and does not open at all for a sold-out show.
  • Discounted tickets (multi-child families, over-65s, disabled visitors, national merit recipients and others) need proof at collection.
  • Changing seats means cancelling the whole booking and paying again; you cannot cancel part of a booking.
  • For cancellations call +82 64-760-3368. The FAQ gives +82 64-760-3365 for remaining-seat enquiries, but the official staff directory (October 2026) lists ticketing under +82 64-760-3373.

Can I store bags at Seogwipo Arts Center, and what can't I bring in?

Bouquets, food, drinks and water bottles may not be taken into the Seogwipo Arts Center auditoriums. The audience rules say plastic bags, flowers, snacks and drinks should be left at the "storage counter" before entering, but its location and hours are not published, so ask at the lobby information desk.

  • Latecomers are admitted only between pieces or at the interval, and an usher may seat you somewhere other than your own seat.
  • Seating is assigned, so you cannot move to an empty seat during the show.
  • Visitors who have been drinking are refused entry even with a ticket.
  • Age limits vary by production (3+, 5+, 8+ and so on); booster cushions are for children under 100 cm.
  • Photography and recording are allowed only when agreed in advance (curtain calls, for example).
  • There is a children's playroom.

What is within walking distance of Seogwipo Arts Center?
