Daegu Opera House seat views and parking: the best sections of 1,602 seats, and the 3,000-won 4-hour parking ticket (checked October 2026)

The Daegu Opera House main theatre has 1,602 seats since its 2021 seat replacement; first-timers do best in the 1st-floor centre B block or the 2nd-floor front C section. Drivers park at the Daegu Samsung Creative Campus next door and must buy a 4-hour, 3,000-won discount ticket, cash or bank transfer only, at the 1st-floor desk before the show.

The Daegu Opera House main theatre has 1,602 seats since its 2021 seat replacement. For a first visit, the centre of the 1st-floor B block or the 2nd-floor front C section is the safest choice. If you drive, park next door at the Daegu Samsung Creative Campus and buy a parking discount ticket (4 hours for 3,000 won) at the 1st-floor information desk before the show. Every figure below was re-checked in October 2026 against the Daegu Opera House's official seating chart and directions and parking pages.

How many seats does the Daegu Opera House have, and where does 1,490 come from?

The Daegu Opera House main theatre has 1,602 seats across four levels. The per-floor totals on the official seating chart (820 on the 1st floor, 256 on the 2nd, 220 on the 3rd, 306 on the 4th) add up to exactly 1,602. The auditorium wraps around the stage in a horseshoe, so from the 2nd floor up the sides reach towards the stage like balconies.

FloorSeatsSections (official seating chart)
1F820OP (front 4 rows), blocks A, B, C, side BL and BR
2F256A, B, C, D, E around the horseshoe, BL and BR at the ends
3F220A, B, C, side BL and BR
4F306A, B, C, side BL and BR

The 1,490 figure you will still see online and on some booking pages dates from before the renovation. In July–August 2021, 18 years after opening, the Daegu Opera House replaced every seat for the first time, raising capacity to 1,602, removing sightline obstructions and lengthening reverberation time from 1.3 to 1.49 seconds, according to the house at the time (Maeil Shinmun, Yeongnam Ilbo). That coverage put the old capacity at 1,480, while KOPIS, Korea's performing-arts database, still lists the main theatre at 1,490 and the annex Camerata at 90. Even the pre-renovation number differs by ten seats depending on the source, so go by the official chart's 1,602.

The OP section at the very front is four rows that sit over the orchestra pit. For a full opera with the orchestra in the pit, those rows may simply not appear on the booking page.

Which block is best on the 1st floor?

On the Daegu Opera House 1st floor, the middle rows of the centre B block are the safest pick. You face the stage head-on, and the official sightline photo shows the whole proscenium in one frame. That matters most for opera, with its large sets and big choruses.

The side A and C blocks on the 1st floor are close to the stage but at an angle, so the far edge of the stage is partly cut off by the proscenium frame. At the same price, a slightly further-back seat near the centre beats a front-row side seat for sightlines.

How different are the 2nd-floor front and the side balconies?

The 2nd-floor front C section at the Daegu Opera House looks slightly down onto the stage, so blocking, ensemble dance and floor effects read at a glance. It shows the full picture better than the back of the 1st floor, so for ballet or large-scale opera it is worth choosing over the rear 1st-floor rows.

The BL and BR balconies at the ends of the 2nd floor are close but look down from the side, so the near side of the stage is cut off. Fine at a low price, but for a show you have not seen before, start with the front sections.

One quirk: the text description on the official seating-chart page still lists the 2nd floor as three sections, A to C, but the current plan on the same page shows five, A to E, plus BL and BR at the ends. The booking pages follow the plan.

Who are the 3rd and 4th floors for?

The 3rd-floor centre B section at the Daegu Opera House is further away but faces the stage squarely, so it suits anyone trying to save money without giving up a straight-on view.

The 4th-floor centre is high enough that faces are hard to read, but the full stage floor and the lighting design spread out below you. Opera glasses help a lot.

The 4th-floor sides have the steepest angle, and even the official sightline photo shows a large part of the stage hidden.

Where and how do I buy the parking discount ticket?

The Daegu Opera House has no car park of its own; audiences use the paid car park of the Daegu Samsung Creative Campus next door. Ticket holders in private cars buy a 4-hour parking discount ticket for 3,000 won at the opera house's 1st-floor information desk, and the discount applies only to cash or bank-transfer payment.

The queue at the desk grows after the show, so buy before you go in. Shows in the annex Camerata work differently: register your plate at the annex office for 2 hours free, then the same 2,000 won (weekdays) or 4,000 won (weekends) per extra hour.

What should I watch out for when driving out after the show?

The Daegu Samsung Creative Campus car park lets you out only through its north and south gates; you cannot exit towards the Opera Samjeong Green Core apartments. If you leave and come back, you have to buy a new discount ticket, so do not move the car during the interval. The official guide itself warns that the campus car park gets crowded on weekends, so for a weekend evening show public transport or a taxi is less tiring.

How do I get there by subway or bus?

The nearest station to the Daegu Opera House is Daegu Station on subway Line 1, about 15 minutes on foot or a base-fare taxi ride. From Buk-gu Office Station on Line 3 it is about 20 minutes on foot.

Are there amenities or discounts to use before the show?

The Daegu Opera House has a cloakroom beside the left rear entrance of the 1st-floor auditorium, with the performance information desk on the right (official 1st-floor seating chart). Wheelchair spaces are marked at the back of blocks A and C on the 1st floor and at the back of sections B and D on the 2nd floor.

According to the official amenities page, holders of tickets to the house's own productions get 10% off at nearby shops (D'Chocolate Coffee, Giorgio Firenze, A Twosome Place, Partion, Artisée) for one month from the performance date; at D'Chocolate, Artisée and A Twosome Place it covers coffee drinks only.

From 2 to 31 October 2026 the 23rd Daegu International Opera Festival is on. During the festival, holders of a ticket to the Daegu Kansong Art Museum's Jeong Seon exhibition get 30% off every festival programme, with the exhibition ticket checked at the door. The house has also announced that part of each festival performance's seating is held back for paid group bookings, audience-development allocations and monitoring, so a booking page that looks nearly full may only be showing the general-sale share.

In short

  1. The Daegu Opera House main theatre has 1,602 seats (820, 256, 220 and 306 by floor); the 1,490 still registered in KOPIS predates the 2021 seat replacement.
  2. For a first visit, take the 1st-floor centre B block or the 2nd-floor front C section; for value, the 3rd-floor centre B section. The far ends of the 2nd- and 4th-floor side balconies lose part of the stage.
  3. Park at the Daegu Samsung Creative Campus and buy the 4-hour, 3,000-won discount ticket in cash or by bank transfer at the 1st-floor desk before the show. Cars exit by the north and south gates only.

Facts were checked in October 2026 by comparing the Daegu Opera House's official seating chart, directions and amenities pages with its KOPIS registration. Parking terms can change; confirm with the parking office (053-341-3564) or the main line (053-430-7400).
