Is there a cloakroom at Korea University's Hwajeong Gymnasium? Where to leave bags, and how many seats it really has (checked October 2026)
Korea University's Hwajeong Gymnasium (화정체육관) has no permanent cloakroom or lockers for audiences. The nearest official lockers are the 13 T-Locker units on B1 of Anam Station (Line 6), towards Exits 3 and 4, open 05:00–01:00. The gym's seating chart counts 4,811 seats (3,813 general, 166 VIP, 796 retractable, 36 press), while KOPIS lists it at 8,057.

Hwajeong Gymnasium (화정체육관) is a university sports arena on Korea University's Anam campus in Seoul. Unlike a commercial concert hall, it has no coin lockers for the audience. On a concert day, bags go either into station lockers or into a temporary bag check run by the promoter. Its seat count also depends on which page you read: the gym's own pages say 3,500 or 4,811, and KOPIS, Korea's national performing-arts database, says 8,057. Everything below was re-checked in October 2026 against the gymnasium's official pages and Seoul Metro's T-Locker data.
Does Hwajeong Gymnasium have a cloakroom or coin lockers?
No permanent cloakroom or lockers are available to the audience. The "locker rooms" on B1 in the gymnasium's interior spaces page (two of 53.35 m² and two of 42.07 m²) are team changing rooms next to the players' waiting rooms. They are not for audience bags, and none of the gym's official facility pages lists audience lockers.
If a bag check exists, it is set up temporarily by that show's promoter. The gymnasium's outdoor spaces page says booths can be set up on the ground-floor plaza. Whether there will be one, and where, is announced in the ticketing site's viewing notes or on the promoter's social accounts.
Where are the nearest official lockers?
The closest are the T-Locker units at Anam Station on Line 6, about 0.8 km from the gymnasium in a straight line. Seoul Metro's official T-Locker data (updated July 2026) lists the lockers at the three nearby stations below.
| Station | Locker location | Units (S/M/L) | Straight-line distance to the gym |
|---|---|---|---|
| Anam (Line 6) | B1, towards Exits 3 and 4 | 13 (9/2/2) | about 0.8 km |
| Bomun (Line 6) | B1, towards Exits 5–8 | 9 (7/2/0) | about 0.9 km |
| Korea University (Line 6) | B1, towards Exits 5 and 6 (by the bicycle racks) | 13 (9/2/2) | about 1.0 km |
Anam and Korea University stations have two large units each; Bomun has none. That is 35 units across all three stations, which fill quickly when thousands of people arrive for a show. The Anam lockers are on the Exit 3 and 4 side, not by Exit 1, which you take to walk to the gym, so stop there first. Live availability is on our locker finder.
How much do the T-Lockers cost, and how late are they open?
At Anam Station you pay a four-hour base fee when you store a bag, and any hourly extra when you collect it. A small unit's base fee is 2,200 won on weekdays. The lockers run 05:00–01:00 (to midnight on public holidays), so they are not 24-hour.
| Size (W × D × H) | Weekday base (4 h) | Weekend base (4 h) | Each extra hour |
|---|---|---|---|
| Small (50 × 60 × 30 cm) | 2,200 won | 3,100 won | 500 won |
| Medium (50 × 60 × 45 cm) | 3,300 won | 4,600 won | 800 won |
| Large (50 × 60 × 90 cm) | 4,400 won | 6,100 won | 1,000 won |
Payment and locking go through the T-Locker app. Scan the QR code on the locker, pick a unit, pay the base fee, then enter the one-time password on the lock. The operator is Seoul Metro Engineering (customer service 1877-1265). For a weekend show, six hours in a small unit, queueing included, costs 3,100 won plus 1,000 won for two extra hours: 4,100 won in all.
How many seats does Hwajeong Gymnasium actually have?
The PDF on the gymnasium's floor plan and seating chart page counts 4,811 seats. That is 3,813 general seats, 166 VIP seats, 796 retractable VIP seats and 36 press seats.
| Category | Seats |
|---|---|
| General seating (14 blocks, A–N) | 3,813 |
| VIP seating | 166 |
| Retractable seating (VIP) | 796 |
| Press seats (18 tables × 2) | 36 |
| Total | 4,811 |
We checked the 3,813 general seats by adding up the blocks: A 262, B 288, C 298, D 268, E 260, F 349, G 129, H 130, I 348, J 260, K 374, L 294, M 291 and N 262. The largest block is K (374) and the smallest is G (129).
The same website's main arena page gives different numbers. It lists 3,500 seats in the stands on the first and second floors, plus 1,500 seats on the B1 arena floor, or 3,000 places if the floor is standing. That makes about 5,000 for a seated show and about 6,500 for a show with a standing floor. The arena floor is 1,760 m² (32 m by 55 m).
KOPIS lists Hwajeong Gymnasium at 8,057 seats. That figure matches neither the seating chart's 4,811 nor the arena page's 3,500 plus 1,500. The widely quoted "up to about 8,000" is close to the KOPIS figure. Because each show uses its own layout, the seating plan on the ticketing site is the best guide to what is actually on sale.
How does a concert layout differ from the official seating chart?
At concerts the stands keep the official chart's block letters, A to N. What changes is the floor. On the layout for CORTIS's shows on 22–23 August 2026, the stage stands where the official chart puts it, at the H and G end, and the floor is filled by standing pens S1 to S4 around a thrust stage.

On this plan the wheelchair spaces are marked beside block J. The official seating chart also places its wheelchair symbols in the VIP row on the J side. This plan carries no H or G labels, and the blocks either side of the stage are greyed out. Seats on sale vary from show to show and can differ from 4,811, so check the plan before you book.
How far is the walk if I am carrying luggage?
From Anam Station Exit 1 to Hwajeong Gymnasium is 800 m, 12 minutes by the official directions. The route climbs, and Naver Map's walking directions put it at 19 to 21 minutes. That is a long uphill pull for a suitcase, so leave bags at the station and walk up with a small bag. Bus routes, parking charges and the walking-route maps are in our separate Hwajeong Gymnasium parking and transport guide.
What are the key points to remember?
There are three things to remember.
- Hwajeong Gymnasium has no permanent audience cloakroom. The B1 "locker rooms" are for teams, and any bag check is set up per show by the promoter.
- The nearest official lockers are 13 T-Locker units on B1 of Anam Station, towards Exits 3 and 4. A small unit costs 2,200 won for four hours on weekdays, and the lockers run 05:00–01:00.
- The seat count depends on the source: 4,811 on the seating chart, 3,500 in the stands plus 1,500 on the floor (3,000 standing) on the arena page, and 8,057 in KOPIS.
