Parking at Korea University's Hwajeong Gymnasium for a concert: where to park and what it costs (checked October 2026)

Korea University's Hwajeong Gymnasium (화정체육관) calls its own car park small, asks visitors to use public transport, and refers concert parking questions to the promoter. Campus underground parking is free for 10 minutes, 2,000 won up to 30 minutes, 500 won per 10 minutes to 2 hours, then 1,000 won per 10 minutes, capped at 40,000 won a day (Korea University parking page, checked October 2026).

For a concert at Hwajeong Gymnasium (화정체육관), the indoor arena on Korea University's Anam campus in Seoul, the subway is the safer choice. The Seoul campus has been car-free above ground since 2005: outdoor parking is banned, so only the underground car parks are available. The gymnasium itself describes its own car park as cramped. The rates and locations below were re-checked against Korea University's and the gymnasium's official pages in October 2026.

Does Hwajeong Gymnasium have its own car park?

Yes, but it is small. The entrance to an underground car park (the IN/OUT ramp in the cover photo) sits under the gymnasium building, and the B1 floor plan the gymnasium publishes shows a parking area next to the arena. The gymnasium's own parking notice says the car park is cramped and asks visitors to use public transport.

The same notice adds that parking questions for performances go to the promoter, not the venue. Whether the gym's car park is open to ticket holders on a concert day is the promoter's call, so check the parking section of your ticketing site's notice first.

Where can I park on a concert day?

If the gymnasium's car park is closed, the three campus underground car parks are the alternative. Korea University's parking page lists the parking offices below. They close early on Saturdays and all day on Sundays, so on a weekend evening there is nobody in the office.

Anam Hospital (Nokji)Anam Hospital new building B2Weekdays 08:00–17:30, Sat 08:00–12:3002-920-5038

All three offices are closed on Sundays and public holidays. The gymnasium is not next to the hospital. Its official directions page puts the "Godae Hospital" bus stop 800 m from the gym on foot, so parking under the hospital means about that walk.

Patients and their families use the hospital car park too, so spaces can be tight during an evening show. Korea University's parking page mentions no reservation scheme, so arriving early is the only way to secure a space.

How much does campus parking cost, and what will four hours come to?

Under Korea University's parking page (Management Support team, posted 30 August 2024), leaving within 10 minutes is free and the daily cap is 40,000 won. Four hours, about what queueing plus a concert takes, comes to roughly 18,000 to 18,500 won.

Time parkedCharge
Up to 10 minutesFree (turnaround)
Up to 30 minutes2,000 won (base fee)
Up to 2 hours500 won per 10 minutes
Over 2 hours1,000 won per 10 minutes
Daily maximum40,000 won
Severely disabled (grades 1–3)Free
Mildly disabled (grades 4–6)50% off with a disability card

Here is the four-hour arithmetic. The university's campus-tour site Yeoul gives worked examples at the same unit rates: 6,000 won for 2 hours and 18,000 won for 4 hours. Applying the 2,000 won base fee for the first 30 minutes, as in the table above, makes it 6,500 won at 2 hours and about 18,500 won at 4 hours. Do not knock the free 10 minutes off a longer stay; the examples show it is not deducted.

Why do some guides say the daily cap is 30,000 won and others 40,000?

Two official Korea University pages print different tables. The parking page, run by the team that manages parking, gives a 40,000 won daily maximum and a 2,000 won base fee for the first 30 minutes. The campus-tour site Yeoul gives a 30,000 won maximum and no base fee.

That is why blogs quote "30,000 to 40,000 won". This guide follows the dated page from the department that runs the car parks, which says 40,000 won. If the exact amount matters, phone the parking office for the zone you are in before you leave.

How do I get there by subway or bus?

The nearest subway station is Anam on Line 6. The gymnasium's official directions page puts it 800 m, or 12 minutes on foot, from Exit 1. The route climbs, though, and Naver Map's walking directions time the same trip at 19 to 21 minutes.

The village bus Seongbuk 20 drops you closest. Its "Godae Ice Rink" stop is 150 m from the gymnasium, according to the gym's own directions.

Both routes head north from Anam Station, pass the Nokji sports ground and come in by the gymnasium's car park entrance. If you are carrying luggage, drop it off before the walk. The station lockers, with their locations and number of units, are in our separate Hwajeong Gymnasium locker and seat guide.

Where can a coach or chartered bus park?

Nowhere on campus. Korea University's Yeoul parking page states that large buses cannot use the campus underground car parks. Passengers are dropped in front of Korea University Station Exit 1 (outside the Lyceum), and the bus parks off campus. That guidance is written for campus-tour groups; on a concert day the promoter's notice on coach drop-off takes precedence.

Is there parking reservation or a concert shuttle bus?

Neither Korea University's parking page nor the gymnasium's website offers parking reservation for ordinary visitors. Neither mentions a concert shuttle run by the gymnasium either. Any shuttle or temporary car park would come from the promoter, so check the ticketing notice again two or three days before the show. The gymnasium's homepage already warns of traffic congestion on and around campus on performance days.

What are the key points to remember?

There are three things to remember.

  1. The gymnasium calls its own car park cramped, and whether it opens to concertgoers is a question for the promoter.
  2. Campus underground parking: first 10 minutes free, 2,000 won base fee up to 30 minutes, 500 won per 10 minutes up to 2 hours, then 1,000 won per 10 minutes, capped at 40,000 won a day. Four hours is about 18,000 to 18,500 won.
  3. Anam Station Exit 1 is 800 m away (12 minutes officially, 19 to 21 minutes by Naver Map). The Seongbuk 20 village bus stops 150 m from the door.
