Renting Rode Arts Center: concert hall and chamber hall rates, the cancellation penalty, and parking (September 2026)

Rode Arts Center (로데아트센터) is a classical-music venue at 79 Nambusunhwan-ro 317-gil in Seocho-gu, Seoul, on the street known as the Seocho instrument district, and it opened in 2024. One building holds five different kinds of space — a concert hall, a chamber hall, an orchestra room, lesson rooms and a multipurpose hall — and each one publishes its rates differently, is booked through a different channel, and carries a different cancellation penalty. The figures below were checked in September 2026 against Rode Arts Center's official rate card, rental procedure, rental regulations, FAQ and floor guide, and against the venue's KOPIS registration.

What spaces does Rode Arts Center have?

Two performance halls — a 209-seat concert hall and a 60-seat chamber hall — plus three practice spaces: an orchestra room, eleven lesson rooms and a multipurpose hall. The building runs from four floors below ground to five above, with a Pascucci café on the ground floor and on B1, which makes the entrance easy to find. Only the concert hall is booked through the website; the other four go through Naver reservations or by phone.

The official site disagrees with itself about how many lesson rooms there are. The practice-room page says eleven; the spaces overview page says thirteen. Call 02-544-1152 before booking if the number matters to you.

The names in KOPIS are not the names on the website

Rode Arts Center is registered in KOPIS, Korea's national performing-arts database, as facility FC003861 with three halls. Two of those three carry a different name there than on the venue's own site.

The 349 seats KOPIS records for the facility is the sum of those three, not the size of the concert hall. Search results and listings sometimes describe Rode Arts Center as a 349-seat venue; the concert hall itself holds 209, a figure on which the official site and KOPIS agree. Searching KOPIS for "체임버홀" returns nothing at all, because the hall is registered there as 소공연장.

Concert Hall — 209 seats over two levels, built for classical music

It sits on B2 with its lobby on B3. The auditorium is on two levels, the acoustics were designed for classical repertoire, and the hall carries DPA microphones, Sony cameras, Blackmagic video equipment and specialist lighting.

Chamber Hall — 60 seats on the fourth floor

Besides small recitals it is used for hourly bookings such as hall lessons and accompaniment lessons, for filming and recording, press conferences, masterclasses and competitions. It has an automated curtain system and its own video and audio equipment.

Orchestra Room — 45 pyeong on the fifth floor, looking out at Umyeonsan

It takes an orchestra of 70 to 80 players for rehearsal or performance. Its full-height windows look out over Umyeonsan and the Seocho instrument district.

Lesson rooms — eleven rooms, up to 12 people each

They are split across the second and third floors and are used for private lessons and practice, masterclasses and chamber rehearsals. The instrument differs from room to room, so you choose between a grand-piano room and an upright-piano room when you book.

Multipurpose Hall — 40 pyeong on B4, for 50 to 60 players

It is used for orchestra rehearsals of 50 to 60 players, for practice, and for assessment sessions. It can be set up either as a stage, with red velvet curtains and a grand piano, or as a seminar room with tables and chairs.

How much does it cost to rent the concert hall or the chamber hall?

A concert-hall performance booking is 1,300,000 won for five hours on a weekday and 1,400,000 won at weekends and on public holidays; the chamber hall is 600,000 won for three hours. All figures exclude VAT. Those five hours cover the rehearsal as well as the performance, and you take either the daytime slot of 11:00~16:00 or the evening slot of 16:30~21:30.

What the base rate includes is what decides the real quote. Per the official rate card, the concert hall booking covers five hours of performance and rehearsal combined, two private dressing rooms for performers, technical staff, and heating and cooling. The chamber hall covers three hours of performance and rehearsal combined, one dressing room, and heating and cooling.

Anything that is not a concert is charged at the separate events rate — that covers events, fan signings, corporate functions, competitions and audition assessments.

Two conditions are easy to miss. The concert hall's additional-hour rate for events rises from 300,000 won to 400,000 won once the booking runs past 22:00. And a competition or audition assessment in the chamber hall must be booked for at least three hours, set-up and strike included.

What do recording sessions and equipment hire cost?

A fixed-camera recording in the concert hall is 250,000 won an hour, and a four-camera multi-camera edit is 350,000 won an hour; the chamber hall offers fixed-camera recording only, at 200,000 won an hour. Piano use is included in those rates. Audio-only recording, and editing where the number of pieces changes the cost, are quoted separately.

Equipment is priced per use.

Piano hire does not include tuning, and the venue works with a designated tuner. The orchestra room, lesson rooms and multipurpose hall publish no rate card at all: their hourly prices are shown, and paid, on the Naver reservation page.

How do I apply, and how long does it take?

Only the concert hall goes through the full eight-step process from public notice to final settlement; the other four spaces are booked by picking an hour on Naver and paying for it. Concert-hall bookings are advertised twice a year, for the first and second halves of the year, and whatever is left over is filled ad hoc. Allow at least a month, because of the deposit and balance deadlines.

The eight steps are: the public notice, the application through the website's booking system, the review (which assesses the concept, the content and the performers), notification of approval, payment of the deposit and signing of the contract, payment of the balance, rehearsal and performance, and final settlement. Two of those steps carry hard dates.

• The deposit is 30% of the base rental fee, and approval can be withdrawn if it is not paid on time.
• The balance must be paid in full before tickets go on sale, and no later than 30 days before the booked date.

The other four spaces are far simpler. You reserve an hour through Naver, pay the fee, then agree the practical details with the rental manager. There is no code and no check-in procedure: you go to your room number at your booked time, and switch the lights and air conditioning off when you leave.

The hours are worth knowing too. Practice rooms and halls can be booked between 07:00 and 24:00, the office is open 09:30~22:00, and the building has no closing days. Practice rooms are booked on the hour — 13:00 to 14:00, for example. Half-hour bookings depend on how full that day is, so they have to be arranged separately on 02-544-1152 or at info@rodeartscenter.com.

What is the cancellation penalty?

You can change or cancel free of charge up to 30 days before the booked date; after that the penalty is half the rental fee, and from seven days before it is the whole of it. This is set out in article 17 of Rode Arts Center's rental regulations, and from seven days before the date the booking cannot be moved at all. Almost no guide covers this, and on a 1.3 million won contract it is the first thing to check.

One detail deserves a second look. The balance is also due 30 days before the booked date. The last day you can cancel for nothing is the same day the full fee falls due. If the performers or the programme are not settled by then, that is your real decision point.

Article 10 lists seven further grounds on which approval can be withdrawn or use restricted: false statements in the application, failing to sign the contract within the deadline, failing to pay the fee within the deadline, issuing more complimentary tickets than there are allocated seats without approval, and so on.

How much is parking, and can an SUV or an EV park there?

There are only 18 spaces — 15 in a mechanical stacker and 3 at ground level, one of which is an accessible bay — and SUVs and electric cars cannot use the stacker. The first 15 minutes are free, and after that it is 2,000 won per 15 minutes. Other vehicles may not fit the stacker either, so it is worth checking before you drive over.

There are two discounts. Audience members at a performance can buy a three-hour ticket for 8,000 won, which does not apply to competitions. Groups and promoters may park up to five cars in total: two are free and the remaining three are registered on five-hour vouchers at 10,000 won each. The discount requires the registration numbers and vehicle types to be sent in before the performance.

Register vehicles by emailing the list to info@rodeartscenter.com or by calling in at the second-floor office. The list should give the group and contact name, the registration number, the arrival and departure times, the vehicle type and anything unusual about it. Registration has to be complete before you drive out for the discount to apply. Note that the email address printed in the official FAQ has a typo in it — rodeartsconter.com — so copying it straight off the page will bounce.

If the car park is full, or your car will not go into the stacker, the venue points visitors at three nearby paid car parks. Their rates have to be checked with each operator.

The venue's own FAQ asks visitors to use public transport where they can, because the car park is small.

How do I get there by subway or bus?

It is about an eight-minute walk from Nambu Bus Terminal station on subway line 3. By bus, take the 405 or 5413 from Seocho station on line 2 and get off at Seocho 3-dong Community Service Centre, or take the Seocho 02 or Seocho 11 local bus and get off at Seocho Middle School. The address is 79 Nambusunhwan-ro 317-gil, Seocho-gu, Seoul, postcode 06709, and the Pascucci on the ground floor makes the building easy to spot.

Can I bring food or flowers into the hall?

Neither is allowed. No food or drink of any kind may be taken into the auditorium, including drinks with lids, and fresh flowers are barred as well, to protect people with allergies. Bouquets are held for you in the concert hall lobby on B3 and can be collected after the performance. Wreaths and potted plants cannot come into the building at all, and dealing with them is the renter's responsibility.

Filming or recording during a performance is not allowed unless it has been agreed in advance. If you are the one renting, there is one more thing to plan for. The information desk and box office on the day are run by the renter, not by the venue. If you need staff for ticket distribution and front-of-house, they are requested with the equipment application and charged separately.

What actually gets performed at Rode Arts Center?

All 90 performances registered at Rode Arts Center in KOPIS as of September 2026 took place in the concert hall. Not one is registered under 소공연장 (the chamber hall) or 오케스트라홀 (the orchestra room). That matches the rental structure exactly: ticketed performances that go through the approval process happen in the concert hall, while the other four spaces turn over hourly as practice, rehearsal and lesson space.

The earliest registered performance is "Conversation: Baroque Solo & Duo" on 16 January 2025, and six were still upcoming as of 8 September 2026. They mix the venue's own programming — a second-anniversary series and a matinee series — with rented dates such as the Korean Chamber Orchestra's subscription concerts.
